The 100-Inspired Look

Today I'm sharing an outfit that I designed for Clark from The 100.  Now let me say from the get-go that I haven't seen the TV show The 100, so I have no idea if this matches AT ALL what Clark's TV character is like.  This is all related to the book and what I felt Clark would wear once she made it to Earth.

I absolutely loved The 100!  I loved the various voices, points of view, and plot situation.  I raced through it and definitely recommend it!

Of all the characters telling the story, Clark seems to be the main one.  Maybe that's because two male characters tend to be wrapped up in her as well, so her name seems to float around a little more than the others.  So she was an easy choice for the outfit design.

Clark is strong, attractive, and determined.  She branches off from the group once she reaches Earth and is intent on surviving and helping others survive.  All of that together is how I came up with this:

  • I used cargo pants because they are comfortable and make hiking/camping a little easier.  And with Clark traipsing off into the woods to search for a missing girl, she needs pockets and comfortable walking.
  • The T-shirt is a reminder of Clark's home in space.
  • Converse shoes are trendy yet comfortable.  I think Clark would still have a few trendy pieces (since she has two guys interested in her) but wouldn't want that to get in the way of her survival.
  • The black watch is useful yet chic.
  • Same with the teal backpack--obviously useful with a bit of a girly touch.
So what do you think?  Would you hike around in an outfit like this?

Check out The 100!  It's a fantastic read that will have you racing to finish!

The Night She Disappeared-Inspired Look

Yesterday I reviewed the book The Night She Disappeared by April Henry, a creepy mystery about a girl who was kidnapped while delivering pizzas.  So today's outfit is a girly pizza delivery look.  Because, hey, sometimes you have to work a job that doesn't allow you to look your cutest, but there are ways of showing off your cuteness anyway!  So here it is, a feminine pizza delivery look:

Cute pizza delivery look
So let's go through it:
  • The red polo shirt is kind of a given.  These are probably given to employees to wear (and for some reason I always see red or green polos when it comes to pizza), but I picked one that had some extra white detailing around the buttons.  This particular shirt is from Fred Perry and retails around $78.
  • I added the white shorts to keep the outfit looking fresh and fun (plus I'm sure delivering pizzas can get hot!).  These are Edwin Bridget Denim and are around $77.
  • Converse shoes in gray keep the outfit young.  And you definitely want something comfortable when you're running around!  These are about $40.
  • Diamond stud earrings along with bangle bracelets make the outfit girly and fresh.  Layering jewelry is fun and adds a lot to an outfit!

So what do you think?  Could you see a pizza delivery girl wearing this look?
I'll be back tomorrow with a new book review (which will match the cold weather that's coming in Indiana!), and of course an outfit on Friday!  See you then!

Black Boy, White School-Inspired Look

Yesterday I shared my thoughts on Brian F. Walker's debut book Black Boy, White School.  In it, Ant is an African American from the ghetto side of Cleveland who tries to make a new life for himself in an East Coast private school.

So he is the inspiration for today's outfit, and I knew just what I wanted to do!  I wanted to create a "slackened" boarding school look.  Since many private schools have uniforms, I wanted Ant to have a uniform look with his own added style.  So here it is:

Slackened Prep School Look
I really like the way it came together!  Let's discuss it:
  • The sweater vest is kind of a given.  Who doesn't think of a private school with a sweater vest (especially if it has some plaid added to it)?  I chose burgundy because it's a manly color.
  • Paired with the sweater vest is a gray skinny tie.  I see Ant as wearing this loosely, just enough so that he's challenging the uniform norm.
  • Jeans of course--these are cooler than wearing khaki pants.
  • Converse shoes really bring the whole outfit down to a "cooler" level.  If this outfit had dressier shoes, it would definitely look more serious, but I wanted this look to have a more relaxed feel.

So what do you think?  Does it fit Ant?  I could totally see him wearing something like this!

Next week I'll be reviewing the first two books in a very popular series--see you then!
